Social networking Vs Search Engine Optimization

April 21st, 2008

Ask yourself these questions - Why would I want more website traffic via networking sites, aren’t Search Engines enough? How can social networking websites help to increase the number of hits to my website more than Search Engine Optimisation, (SEO)?

Social Networking is a great way for new or existing companies to gain an online presence, with a minimal outlay of revenue and, in some cases, even overnight success!

Social Networking sites can bring many visitors and potential clients to your site in a short space of time, helping you expand your client base and potentially increasing sales of your products and services at little or no extra cost to you.

Your website should have unique and informative content, keeping the user interested in your services or products. This can include giving helpful free advice, facts, using blogs, forums and links to other useful websites that your visitors will enjoy. Add signature links to forums and links to your website on your social networking profile.

Establish yourself as an online ‘ Expert’ in your particular field by answering peoples questions, giving good, sound, advice, and recommending products and services, not only just your own. This will take a little time but, once you have built a good, reliable, reputation, people will come directly to you for advice and to use your services. You are established as an ‘Expert’ in your field! - Thus increasing beneficial website traffic to your site.

Other benefits of Social Networking - Is it a place for business professionals too?

Social Networking isn’t just for ‘Business-to-Consumer’ but it’s also beneficial in building “Business-to-Business” relationships for business professionals too. Once you are established online, it’s easy to find companies and people with the similar interests and goals that will compliment your services. You can then share advice and leads, which will eventually increase your revenue and service portfolio.

Business Networking Benefits - The days of the traveling salesman are going, with most business in the 21st Century being conducted on line. When online you are able to judge a person’s level of knowledge, skills and helpfulness and you will be able to see the benefits this person can bring to your company and whether you can eventually work with them.

To summarize - Social networking in a business sense, is today’s way of attracting potential clients and interest to your site because of your specialized knowledge and skills. Combining this with SEO will develop a positive sense of helping people who appreciate your advice and will increase the number of meaningful hits to your website.

Internet Social Networking Explained

April 21st, 2008

An online community is a social network with common interests and goals that people from across the globe can join to share their feelings and views. There are a variety of different types of communities you can join and many ways to participate and interact within the community.

Two popular online communities right now are MySpace and Facebook. These sites let you create your own unique page designed to your likes and interests. You can post pictures, join groups, add friends, find friends and co-workers and even start pages for your company. You can post blogs on your own page, which are sort of like journal entries, post comments on your friend’s pages or group pages and send private messages. One can also create pages for a cause you are interested in or an activity you are having and through the site you can send invitations and invite people to join. If you are making your own personal page, you have the option to make sure that only your “friends” can see your page. This makes these communities secure and keeps everyone safe from online predators. These sites are a very good way to keep in touch with your friends and family or to reunite with old ones.

Other popular online communities generally consist of journal or blog sites. On these sites you can write down all of your emotions and feelings or just write about your day and get feedback from other members of the community. You have the option of making your entries private or available to the public to view. These sites also let you add friends so you can keep up on their daily lives as well.

There are also online communities available in almost every town. Here, members can have access to local classified ads ranging from pets to houses for sale. You can also stay on top of local news and all upcoming events so you won’t miss a thing. Most of these sites also set up forums so you can chat with other locals in your area and allow you to set up your own personal profile and even add photos.

As you can see, there is more to the internet than just looking up information. Online communities are an easy way to keep up with what’s going on in the world and to voice your opinion on issues that concern you and most importantly, to keep up with the people we care about without having to disrupt your hectic lifestyle. There is an online community out there for just about everyone.

How To Use Social Bookmarking as a Business Tool - Can You Digg It?

April 21st, 2008

Before discussing the use of social bookmarking as a business tool, we should first have a quick look at the phenomenon and discuss why it has become so popular. By understanding that, then it will become easier to understand potential business uses. The uses outlined here are just that: outlines, since the particular applications to which these sites can be put will be specific to your type of online business.

The original intention of social bookmarking is to enable you to store websites and pages that you have found and want to refer to later, and also to refer them to others that you think might benefit from them or just enjoy visiting them. You can bookmark any type of web content from articles to blogs to videos, and to start doing so you have first to register with one or more social bookmarking sites.

Among the more popular of such services are Digg, Reddit, Del.icio.us, Blink, Furl and StumbleUpon. They are easy to join, and having done so all you have to do to make a bookmark is simply to add a button or chicklet linking to the specific social bookmarking site, and click on it. The URL of the page you are viewing will be added to your bookmarks and you can categorize it by means of tags. Tags are no more than the keywords that you feel best describe the page you are viewing. You can use just the one tag or a number of them.

All of your bookmarks within each site are accessible by clicking on one of the tags in your ‘tag cloud’, which is basically a list of tags, although it is possible to categorize them in order to make it easier to find bookmarks on specific topics.

So how can you use social bookmarking as a business tool? For a start it is a way to increase the visibility of your blogs, websites and even your affiliate programs, and increased visibility leads to more visitors. Social bookmarking sites can provide you with back-links that will improve your Google PageRank: this in turn can improve your search engine results position. Because they are free you have nothing to lose by using these sites in this way, unless you overdo it and are regarded as a spammer.

Here are the steps needed to use bookmarking sites effectively for your business while avoiding the spamming trap.

Let’s assume that you have registered with a social bookmarking site such as del.icio.us, and are ready to go. The same steps here will apply to the others, and like most other aspects of an online business, best results will be obtained by using as many social bookmarking sites as you can find. Repetition brings best results.

1. Check out the site. Not all social bookmarking sites have the same type of users, and it is essential that there are other users on the site that are liable to be interested in your website content and products. Check out the blogs and websites that get the highest number of bookmarks - that is often a good guide as to the type of user, and if you can produce content similar to the more popular stuff on the bookmarking site in question, then you should be able to use that site in your business.

2. Produce content close to that which gets most bookmarks on each specific site, and twist it towards your business. It is possible to use practically any social bookmarking site this way if you are clever enough. The bookmarks that you make of your own web pages or blogs should contain good content that is interesting, entertaining or educational, and not outright sales material. Leave the conversion of traffic to sales until you actually have them on your website, and then provide links to your sales pages. People are more liable to purchase from you if you have shown expertise in the subject in hand by solving a problem or presenting a new angle on a specific topic.

3. Avoid the advice given in some quarters to open several accounts with the same social bookmarking site. That is liable to damage your reputation, and at worst can result in the site banning you and canceling all of your registrations. Even if under different names and email addresses, they can identify you through your IP address.

These are the general ways in which you can begin using social bookmarking as a business tool in order to generate new business. However, there is more to these sites than just getting business, and they are useful as administrative tools in their own right. Here are some ways in which they can help make your business easier to run:

1. Use social bookmarking as a cataloging system for the knowledge base of your business. Any employees that come across sites that deal with specific aspects of your business can bookmark them under specific tags predefined by you to be used for certain types of information. Good restaurants and excellent hotels for business clients, inexpensive sources of office equipment and reference materials relating to your business are all categories that you can predefine, and that you and your employees can build up on approved social bookmarking sites.

2. Use them when seeking new suppliers or customers. Staff can make a bookmark when they come across websites or blog postings of potential clients or suppliers for specific services you are seeking. Let’s say you are seeking a new limo company to transport important clients to and from airports. After a while you can access the social bookmarking site to find out what your staff has bookmarked, and so make your choice much easier.

3. If you are able to establish if your clients, customers or vendors have a registration with a social bookmarking site, you can register with the same site yourself and bookmark your own blog postings and web content. If you get advance notice that a particular potential client is seeking a new service or supplier, then you can get ahead of the field by making a bookmark on the site that they use.

One of the advantages of such sites is that the keywords, or tags, are user defined rather than search engine defined. They should therefore define the content in a more human way that the machines would. If you are looking for specific information you should be able to find it easier by using the language that others would also use. There is a disadvantage to this in that misspellings are common, so make sure that your spelling is correct because the social bookmarking site will not ask you if you are sure, as a search engine such as Google does.

There are many ways in which to use social bookmarking as a business tool, both as an administration and a traffic and sales tool. Once you understand how such sites work, then you will doubtless find many more uses in addition to those outlined above.

Affiliate Marketing - Make Money With PPC

April 21st, 2008

There are tons of ways to use internet marketing to make money online. One of the best and most reliable ways is PPC marketing. PPC (par per click) marketing is a powerful tool in the hands of an affiliate marketer. You can get a constant stream of visitors to your site and increase ROI (return on investment) by more than 300%!

The biggest PPC marketing showcase is Google. You may have noticed a column of ads on the right hand side of your search page. Those are PPC ads. People sign up for Google adwords, create those ads and they are shown on Google under specific keywords. The adword user must pay Google every time someone clicks on their ad. The cost per click varies and depends on the keywords competition. A low competition keyword may cost you a few pennies per click. A more competitive keyword, on the other hand, may cost you 30 cents to a dollar per click.

The most popular way to make money with PPC is with affiliate marketing. PPC allows you to send people strait to a sales page. If that person buys the product, you get your commission. Unfortunately it is a little more complicated than that. You have to be aware of you cost to make sure you do not spend more money on clicks than you get in commissions. A lot of people never use PPC because they are afraid of losing money. The truth is, if you manage your account correctly you can make a lot of money using PPC.

If you are advertising something that will make you $25 a sale, then you need to find out the conversion rate of the site. Most sites will gladly give you this information if you email them. Let’s say the site converts 2% of the people that visit it. So it is safe to assume that one out of every 50 people will make a purchase. You should not pay any more than 50 cents per click. 50 cents will get exactly 50 people there with $25. As long as you do not pay too much for your ads, you will not lose much money. By sticking to those guidelines you greatly reduce any risk of losing money.

The best thing about PPC is that when you get a successful ad running, you can set it on autopilot and it will continue to make money for you. If you get several successful ads running on autopilot you will really see a substantial amount of money come in. This is called continual income and it is great because you make money all day and night, even while you sleep!

Anyone can make money with PPC. All it takes is knowledge, research, and the will to succeed. If you want to increase your affiliate checks and make more money, PPC is for you.

A Beginner’s Guide to Making Money on the Internet with Adsense

April 21st, 2008

If you’re interested in making money with Internet marketing, the fastest and easiest way to do this, in my opinion, is with Google Adsense.

If you’re not familiar with Adsense, they are the little ads that you see on many web pages that consist of a headline, two lines of text and a URL.

When you put Adsense on your web pages and people click on them, Google pays you for each click. Some of these clicks pay as much as $2 or $3 while others might pay as little as five cents or less.

How to get started with Google Adsense

To put Google Adense on your website or blog, you must first submit the site or blog to Google and be approved.

You can find the place to start by searching on the term Google Adwords.

After you fill in all the blanks and submit your site or blog, Google will actually crawl it to make sure it qualifies for Adense. This means that your website should probably have at least 10- 12 pages and your blog should have a fair number of posts.

After You Are Approved

Once you have been approved by Google, you will need to go to the Google Overview page and click on Adsense Setup, which is where you create your AdSense ads unit or units. You will want to choose AdSense for Content and your ad unit should be Text ads only. Click Continue and you will then choose your Format — which can be anything from a 728 x 90 Leaderboard down to a 125 x 125 Button.

You will also need to choose a Border, Title, Background, Text, and URL.

Most webmasters, including your author, have found that the best producing Format is the 300 x 250 Medium Rectangle with no border a blue title, no background, black text and a colored URL. But then, this can vary from site to site and, ultimately, you will have to experiment and find the unit that generates the most revenue for you.

Next, you will be given the opportunity to create a Channel to track the performance of your Adense units. Google allows you to choose up to five custom channels to track the performance of an ad unit.

You can name your channels just about anything, but it’s best to name them by reference to their size or their location on your web pages. For example, you might name one channel 300×200topleft. This is important because when you run your revenue reports, Google will report your earnings by Top Channels so that you can see which of your units are performing best and which are doing the worst, and make changes accordingly.

The HTML Code

You will next go to a window with a Submit and Get Code button. Click on it and Google will provide the code for your AdSense unit. This code will be in HTML, which means you will have to find the HTML source code for your web pages and then insert the Adsene code in the appropriate place or places.

Experience has taught me that the maximum position for AdSense on my websites is the upper left-hand corner — either above or below the headline. But then, as with most anything in Internet marketing, you will need to experiment to see which AdSense unit in which positions generate the maximum revenue.

In Summary

Google AdSense can be an excellent revenue generator for the beginning Internet marketer. AdSense ad units are easy to create and place on your website and can earn you $100 a month or more — depending on the nature of your website or blog and the amount of traffic you can generate.

How To Market A Service Online - Direct Marketing Is Key To Your Success Online

April 21st, 2008

Marketing any product or service online is similar to offline marketing in some respects but different in others. The goal is the same, to make a profit. A good education of marketing is necessary for both words; online I would say you need an education in direct marketing to be successful.

The benefit of direct marketing online is that you don’t need a retailer involved; you just market your products or services directly to your end user. Direct marketing is how most advertising online is done, most of the major players such as Yahoo and Google run direct marketing systems.

When you do a search online with Google or Yahoo, the ads you see on the right hand side of the page are direct marketing ads. They might not be called that but the idea is to have a “searcher” click on the ad, visit the site and perform an action such as buying something or putting in their email address.

Another effective and my favorite way to market product and services online is by using article marketing. You write short articles in your field of expertise and submit them to article directories; these directories will spread them all across the Internet. Your article will have a link to your website so that a reader can visit your website after they finish reading the articles.

Article marketing is free and only cost you your time to write the article. It is effective and you are sure your prospects are interested because they read your article to get to your website.

  • Offer your visitors a free report or other free information in exchange for their name and email address to encourage them to sign up. They will be more likely to sign up if you give them an incentive.
  • Encourage people to leave comments on your blog to start a conversation going. You may have to teach them how to leave comments and what to expect from this process.

Blogging will establish your credibility online and build your visibility with the target audience you are trying to reach.

The Importance of Australian Search Engine Optimisation

April 2nd, 2008

Globally it’s very hard to rank for competitive keywords. Almost all global companies have seo implementation, making it very difficult to rub shoulders with these large corporations. What does this have to relate to Australia? Well Australians are only waking to the idea Search Engine Optimisation as a Online Marketing technique, with only a handful Australian websites with seo implementation. I’m not talking about meta tags and keywords here. I’m referring to serious SEO implementation that reaches much deeper than the Meta Tags and Titles.
For those Australian websites who do have serious seo implementation are probably finding now that they are on top, its pretty easy maintaining this position, compared to the websites who are struggling to climb that ladder. Why is this? There are a lot of variables why older sites rank better but mainly its because their old. Think of it like a bottle of red wine you set down in the basement in 1998, getting better with age. It is exactly the same theory for Websites. Google has to trust your website before it lets you rank. Trust is a very big and complex variable in Search Engine Optimisation which toys with the concept of page rank and partner sites. One way to gain trust from Google is to let your website age, hence making it very important to get your business online now. Will Internet Marketing Work for Your Business?

February 28th, 2008

This is an extremely difficult question to answer because there are so many complex factors involved. Specifically there are techniques you employ in your Internet marketing campaign in addition to  executing  techniques that can determine whether or not Internet marketing will work for your business. Additionally, the likelihood of your target audience using the Internet and responding to your marketing efforts should also be considered as part of  the equation. This article will outline the potential for successful  internet marketing .

Before making the decision to embark on an Internet marketing campaign you should carefully consider your target audience. The Internet is used widely around the world but whether or not members of your target audience are likely to utilise the Internet to research or purchase the products or services you sell is not guaranteed. This is significant because investing a great deal of time, effort and money into internet marketing when your target audience is not likely to respond to these efforts is not worthwhile.

Conducting market research can do a great deal to help you determine whether or not you should invest in an Internet marketing campaign for your business. This step is very important because it will give you a good indication of whether or not you should even begin marketing your business on the Internet. Hiring a firm specialising in market research is recommended because they can conduct this research quickly and efficiently and will likely gain a great deal of valuable information as a result of their research efforts. If they determine your business can benefit from an Internet marketing campaign, it is time to start thinking about how you want to advertise your business online.

Again, seeking the help of professionals can be an extremely worthwhile investment. If you are not well versed in the industry of Internet marketing, hiring a firm with a great deal of expertise in this industry can be very helpful. They can assist you by consulting with you to determine which marketing strategies will be most effective, designing advertisements for your campaign, helping you to orchestrate your internet marketing campaign and evaluating the results of marketing efforts to determine which strategies are working and which are not.

The potential for success with an Internet marketing campaign is virtually limitless. The success you enjoy is only limited by your ability to promote your products and services and execute effective marketing strategies. Some of the marketing strategies you may wish to employ may include optimising your website for relevant search terms, placing links to your website judiciously on the Internet, writing and publishing e-newsletters and utilising affiliates to promote your website.

Search engine optimisation (SEO) is one of the most important aspects of any Internet marketing campaign. SEO is so important because it dictates the ranking of your website on popular search engines. Internet users value these results and are not likely to seek out websites which do not rank well with search engines. Conversely, high ranking websites can enjoy a great deal of increased website traffic as a result of these rankings.

Inbound links to your website are also important in Internet marketing. Inbound links are links on other websites which direct users to your website. These links are important in an Internet marketing campaign. First of all many search engines factor inbound links into their ranking algorithms which means inbound links can result in higher search engines rankings. Also, these links can be used directly by website users to access your website. This means you can gain traffic directly from these links.

Another way to enjoy a successful internet marketing campaign is to orchestrate an affiliate marketing campaign. Affiliates are essentially website owners who place a banner ad on their website to direct traffic to your website. Typically, affiliates are only compensated when the advertisement on their website produces a desired effect such as enticing the users to click through the advertisement, resulting in a sale or resulting in another action such as filling out a survey or registering with your website. Affiliate marketing can not only be highly effective but it is also cost effective because you only pay the affiliates when they produce results.

Tracking the Results of Internet Marketing

February 28th, 2008

As with any marketing campaign you may run to assist your business, it is important to track the results of your Internet marketing campaign. This should be done on a continual basis so you can ensure the strategies you are utilising are working. It can also help you to determine when a strategy is not working so you do not continue to invest time and money on a strategy which is not beneficial to your business. This article will discuss some of the options for tracking the results of your Internet marketing campaign.

Business owners who use banner ads have a simple way to track whether or not their banner ads are effective. This is possible because they can place code in the banner ad which will supply them with feedback each time a user clicks on the banner ad. This information is transmitted to the business owner so he can evaluate which of his banner ads are generating the most interest. If the business owner is currently using two different styles of banner ads on comparable websites he can use this information to determine which design is most effective. This is important because if one style is significantly more effective than the other it might be worthwhile to convert all of the banner ads to this style or to make changes which will make the two different styles more similar.

If the business owner is using the same banner ad on a number of different websites, the feedback can help him determine which websites are generating the most traffic for him. If he determines some websites are not generating a great deal of traffic it makes sense to discontinue the banner ads on these websites as they are not cost effective.

Business owners who utilise affiliate marketing during their Internet marketing campaign may also be interested in tracking the results of their affiliates. This is necessary because affiliates are often paid according to the results they generate but it is also useful for determining which affiliates are most successful. This information can be useful if different ads are running on different affiliate websites because it can be an indication of which websites are most effective. Tracking the results of affiliate marketing is similar to tracking the results of banner ads. You can place code in the ads which appear on the affiliate’s website to provide you with feedback each time a user clicks on the ad.

Another way to evaluate the results of an Internet marketing campaign is to simply closely monitor your own website traffic and sales. This is especially important when it is done in consideration with the type of marketing you are currently running. For example if you launch a new banner ad campaign with ads appearing on numerous high profile websites concurrently, you may notice an almost immediate increase in website traffic and sales. This information most likely indicates the banner ads are successful.

However, the problem with using this type of evaluation is it does not pinpoint successes or failures. If you launch your banner ad on five different websites at once you may notice an immediate increase in traffic and sales but will not be aware which websites are the most effective. For example, your advertisement may be running on five different websites but only one of these websites may be attracting attention for your business. Similarly if you are running several different styles of ads, some styles may attract more attention than others but you will not be able to differentiate simply by evaluating your website traffic and sales. The other four may only be generating minimal interest in your products or services. If you wish to use this method for evaluating the feedback on your Internet marketing efforts, it is worthwhile to only make one change at a time so you can more accurately determine what is working and what is not. Alternatively you can ask customers to fill out a survey stating where they saw your advertisement so you can solicit feedback on your marketing efforts.
